SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Continuing to bring in awards, the No. 18 Santa Clara women's soccer team had seven players named to the All-West Coast Conference teams on Tuesday. Julie Johnston and Sofia Huerta were named to the first team, Meleana Shim and Allie Vernon were second team selections, Lauren Matheson and Dani Weatherholt were honorable mention.  Weatherholt and Andi Tostanoski were named to the WCC All-Freshman team.

"First off I want to congratulate all seven of our players that were honored by the conference," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "The WCC has proven to be one of the top conferences in the country and by virtue of that it has a number of great players. To have seven Broncos honored is a credit to the team approach we have had all season. A special congratulations goes to Sofia and Julie as they are very deserving First-Team selections and congratulations to BYU on the conference championship and numerous awards."

Johnston, a 2011 First-Team All-American, leads the Broncos in goals (8) and points (20) while also adding four assists which is good for second on the team. She missed the first seven games of the season due to her participation as the captain of the U.S. squad that won the U-20 World Cup in Japan. Johnston was also awarded the Bronze Ball as the third most impactful player in the tournament. Johnston is also up for the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Award, the most prestigious award in NCAA soccer.

"It's an honor to make First-Team All-WCC, especially in such a good conference," said Johnston. "I'm glad to represent Santa Clara on the field and to see hard work pay off is such a great feeling as well."

Huerta has been named to the All-WCC First-Team for the second time in as many years. She currently ranks second on the team with six goals and has a team-high five assists. Her 17 points is second behind Johnston. Huerta missed the first five games of the season due to participating in the U-20 World Cup with Mexico.

"It's obviously an honor but it's not something that me or my teammates think about," said Huerta. "We play for Santa Clara and try to do the best that we can each game. It's always rewarding when you get awards and I'm very proud of myself. It's such a compliment to Santa Clara to have so many players recognized."

Shim, a team captain in 2012, was a 2011 All-WCC Second-Team selection and All-WCC Honorable Mention in 2010. She has scored two goals in 2012 while adding one assist.

Vernon was the co-Freshman of the Year in 2009 as well as being All-WCC Second Team and named to the WCC All-Freshman Team. This year she has appeared in all 20 Santa Clara games while scoring one goal.

Matheson set a career-high in goals scored in 2012 with four. She has also added two assists for 10 points. She scored two goals vs. Fresno State on September 27, including the game –winner in overtime. She was named to the 2009 All-WCC Freshman team and was All-WCC honorable mention in 2010.

Weatherholt has stepped in as a starter in her freshman year and has appeared in every Bronco game this season. She has found the back of the net four times and added two assists. Her 10 points is tied with Matheson for third on the team.

Tostanoski has started all but two games in 2012 while playing over 1,700 minutes in net. She has a 1.10 GAA and 68 saves to go with a .764 save percentage. She has picked up seven shutouts and has one shared shutout.
