BERKELEY, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis wrapped up competition at the Cal Nike Invitational on Sunday in Berkeley, California. Junior Zeina El Tawil won both of her matches on the day, including the consolation final in the Gold bracket.

"I think for our first tournament as a team, we did well," head coach Ben Cabell said. "It was about what I expected from the team. Obviously, we have plenty of stuff to work on but that's what these tournaments are for. We did some good things and we have some things we need to touch on in practice before our next competition."

In the Gold singles consolation final, El Tawil defeated No. 1 seed Alaina Miller (UCLA) due to Miller choosing not to compete. El Tawil also competed in the Sunday Round Robin and knocked off Sabrina Rodriguez (Pacific), 6-3; 6-3.

In the White doubles consolation final, freshman Caitlyn Frankel and junior Giannina Ong defeated Demi Daniels and Taylah Beckman of BYU by default. BYU does not compete on Sundays and no-showed the match.

"I'm very proud of our freshmen (Frankel and Caraline Patterson)," Cabell said. "It was great to see them get their first collegiate wins, that's always an exciting moment. Overall, it was a good learning experience for the whole team."

The Broncos return to the court on Oct. 7-9 for the Saint Mary's (CA) Fall Invitational in Moraga, California.
