SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Today, Bronco baseball announces the fourth member of its incoming freshman class for 2016-17, Grant Nechak. The right-handed pitcher currently attends Calabasas High School in Calabasas, Calif.
"Grant is one of the most 'ready-to-pitch' guys that we have recruited in our time at SCU," associate head coach/recruiting coordinator Gabe Ribas said. "He has great stuff, but more than that he is a winner. Grant's resume speaks for itself on the field, but he has a grit and toughness that you can't teach. He has a chance to anchor the rotation for the next three-to-four years."
Nechak went 9-2 with a 1.81 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 90.0 innings for head coach Thomas Cassidy and the Coyotes as a junior in 2014-15. He also hit .472 with 16 RBIs and a .548 on-base percentage. Calabasas took second place in the Marmonte League and won a CIF Southern Section Playoff game against Lakewood — the first Division I postseason win in program history.
The 6-foot-4-inch, 205-pound prospect was named a CalHi Sports First Team All-State Underclass selection, as well as First Team All-CIFSS DI and First Team All-Ventura County. Nechak was also named MVP of the Marmonte League.
Outside of baseball, Nechak is interested in sports management, biology and restaurants. His hobbies include golfing and go-kart racing.
Next week's future Bronco is Andre Nnebe.
