SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara University does an excellent job instilling various core values in its student-athletes. They are encouraged to work hard on and make the most of their time on the Mission Campus. SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCB) had the opportunity to speak with ’98 graduate Amy Timpe (AT), who spent three years rowing for the women’s crew team.
After finishing the year on the water, Santa Clara women's rowing is pulling in accolades, this time in the classroom. On May 28, members of the crew were named to both the National Scholar Athletes list by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association and to the All-West Coast Conference Academic team.
The Santa Clara women’s rowing squad finished its 2013 campaign after competing at the West Coast Conference Championship on May 18. At the WCC Championship, the conference all named two Broncos to the 2013 WCC All-Conference Team.
With both the Santa Clara men's rowing and women's rowing programs prepping for their respective championships, EYEBRONCO caught a ride on the coaches' boats to get a behind the scenes look at Santa Clara rowing.
At the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships, the Santa Clara women’s rowing team had a solid showing and now preps for the West Coast Conference Championships.
Entering the WCC championships the women's crew squad is looking to become more efficient. After the WIRA Championships, the Broncos will looking to improve times and Bronco head coach John Wojtkiewicz thinks team unity has been instrumental.
After competing at the Stanford Invitational last weekend, the Santa Clara women’s rowing squad is now prepping for the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
Led by 16 Bronco student-athletes who posted a 4.0 grade point average and four teams who achieved a 3.4 or higher, Santa Clara University's student-athletes recorded a 3.037 grade point average (GPA) for the Winter 2013 quarter, topping 3.0 or better for the 18th time in 19 quarters. Santa Clara's cumulative GPA for its student-athletes is 3.089.
The Bronco women's rowing team traveled to Eugene, Oregon last weekend to take part in the Covered Bridge Regatta. Santa Clara traveled both the varsity and junior varsity teams. Santa Clara is taking the experience from these races and using it as they move forward as they race on April 20 against Saint Mary's and UCSD and against Mills on April 21.

Adrienne Lohe (AL) became a varsity women's crew member during the 2011-2012 season, and rowed as a novice for the Broncos her freshman year. With her athletic background in track and cross country, crew was a new sport to Lohe when she became a Bronco.
Lohe has had a successful academic and athletic career at Santa Clara University (SCU), but looks forward to returning to the east coast after graduation. Lohe talked about her experiences at SCU with www.SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCB).
The 2013 West Coast Conference women's rowing preseason polls came out recently and Santa Clara University was well-represented, with Carina Brocato and Megan Alferness named to the league's preseason all-conference team.
Much like weightlifting, where athletes work up to a ‘max’ weight or certain amount of repetitions, in the sport of rowing, each team and each boat aims to build up speed in preparation for the season's competition window.

Reilly Dampeer ’00, the Santa Clara all-time record holder in the 2k ergometer, is no exception. She has gone on to compete for the U.S. National Team and been able to pass on her passion to others as a coach.
With the final race of the Fall in the books, Santa Clara women’s rowing now looks forward to the long winter of training in preparation for Spring. After having very little experience in 2012, the Broncos brought back almost the entire roster and head coach John Wojtkiewicz is looking for improvements this year.

After building a strong foundation in 2011, Santa Clara women's crew opened fall practice Tuesday, a day after classes began on the Mission campus. The Broncos return 18 rowers from their 2012 roster and welcome four freshmen.

After being cut from the Santa Clara basketball team by legendary coach Carroll Williams, Matt Madigan '91 didn't want to end his collegiate athletic career so he took up rowing. More than 20 years later Madigan will be headed the Olympics for the second time as a coach. He is the coach of the U.S. women's double sculls consisting of Sarah Trowbridge and Margot Shumway.
Santa Clara University's NCAA Division I women's rowing program is looking to add motivated student-athletes to its 2012-13 roster. Led by third-year Bronco head coach John Wojtkiewicz, Santa Clara will begin practice at the Lexington Reservoir in Los Gatos, Calif. in September.
In a season where it hosted its first-ever home regatta, Santa Clara women's rowing wrapped-up its 2012 season at the WCC Championships at Lake Natoma in Sacramento, Calif. on May 12 and 13. The season was not about just results, but showing the many newcomers what it takes to compete at the Division I level.
