SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara University's NCAA Division I women's rowing program is looking to add motivated student-athletes to its 2012-13 roster. Led by third-year Bronco head coach John Wojtkiewicz, Santa Clara will begin practice at the Lexington Reservoir in Los Gatos, Calif. in September.
The Broncos are in search of three types of student-athletes.
1.) Coxswains: Naturally under 110 pounds, they are responsible for managing the crew and steering the boat; characteristically confident and outgoing, coxswains must be comfortable giving orders and possess good situational analysis skills.
2.) Lightweight Rowers: Naturally under 130 pounds, these rowers are very fit, strong and extremely efficient … runners tend to be good lightweights, although a high strength to weight ratio is ideal.
3.) Openweight Rowers: Naturally over 130 pounds, these rowers possess a great deal of strength.
Prospective student-athletes can visit the SCU women's rowing recruiting table at all six of the July incoming student orientations. The program will also be holding meetings in early September for students interested in competing for the Broncos in 2012-13.
Please contact coach Wojtkiewicz at jwojtkiewicz@scu.edu or 408-554-4636 for more information.
In order to participate individuals must be enrolled full-time at Santa Clara University (minimum 12 units), be prepared to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse and complete the appropriate sports medicine forms (including physical and medical history) which can be found by clicking here.
