Stan Conte was named Santa Clara University Assistant Director of Sports Medicine in the fall of 2017.  

Conte is both a California Licensed Physical Therapist as well as Certified Athletic Trainer.  Prior to Santa Clara he spent 24 years as the head athletic trainer/physical therapist as well as vice president of medical services for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants.  He is also founder/owner of Conte Injury Analytics, a research consultant company, that works with Major League Baseball on baseball injury research.

Conte’s undergraduate degree was at California State University, Northridge and received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Boston University. After spending four years as a Captain in the US Army Medical Corp as a physical therapist and earning two Army Commendation Medals, he started a private practice physical therapy clinic. Conte would expand to own, operate and consult with seven physical therapy clinics in three different states.

Conte has published research on baseball injuries including multiple publications in the highly regarded American Journal of Sports Medicine.  Presently he is has been the primary author or co-author of 14 published articles and has submitted two other papers to medical journals.  He also has three written book chapters on epidemiology of baseball injuries. He serves on multiple Major League Baseball Research Committees including the prestigious UCL Research Committee formed by the Commissioner of Baseball as well as a founding member of the MLB Electronic Medical Records Committee. He was also named as an Advisor to MLB Website Pitchsmart.org in the education of coaches, parents and players on risks associated with shoulder and elbow injuries in baseball.  Conte’s research includes baseball injury prevention, epidemiology and injury trends and UCL reconstruction (Tommy John Surgery).

Conte has lectured nationally and internationally and is the Co-Chairman of the Lew Yocum PBATS Baseball Sports Medicine Conference. He was awarded the ASMI/Andrews Career Achievement Award by James Andrews in 2012. Conte serves as an Adjunct Faculty Member at California State University, Northridge in the Physical Therapy Department.  Conte has been profiled and featured in multiple media outlets including the New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, ESPN, and ESPN The Magazine. He also has been a guest on baseball related radio and television shows.
