Bronco Track Runs a Number of Personal Bests at UC Davis.

March 15, 2009

During a blustery, windy day at UC Davis, Santa Clara toughed it out to run a number of personal bests at the Aggie Open. Santa Clara, in final exams this week, will travel to Sacramento this weekend to compete in the always very competitive Hornet Invitational.

Sophomore Reid ran a 3:59.07 in the 1500m to run a personal best and finish in seventh place. Garrett Smith also ran a personal best in the 1500m to finish at 4:08.64 and John Laughlin finished one place ahead of Smith at 4:07.69.

Evan Hennessey ran a competitive 9:38.17 two-mile race to finish fourth.

On the women's side Whitney Porter was third in the two-mile race with a time of 10:58.13, a personal-best. Noelle Lopez followed right on Porter's heels with a personal-best 10:59.06 to finish fourth.

"Both ran a really smart race, starting out in 9th or 10th place and closed on a number of people in the end, running a very competitive race," said Bronco head coach Tom Service.

Jenny Light ran a 4:57.72, her first time under five minutes, and a personal best in the 1500m. Melissa Conlin, who took a year off without running due to injury, ran a 4:59.31 in the 1500m finishing one place behind Light.

"That was a huge step in the right direction for Melissa," said Service.
