Bronco Track Endures Heat at Hornet Invitational

SACRAMENTO, Calif. The Santa Clara outdoor track team endured the heat to compete in the Hornet Invitational at Sacramento State, with many members of the team breaking numerous seasonal personal records throughout the day.

On the men's side, senior Michael Delaurenti took third in the men's steeplechase with a time of 9:26, his season personal best thus far. Sophomore Alex Harkins had a season PR of his own, taking sixth place in the event with a time of 9:37. Freshman Robert Reid recorded a season PR time of 4:05.9 in the men's 1500 M.

The women had a successful day as well, with senior Danielle Miller taking third place in the women's steeplechase with a time of 11:25. Freshman Kashmir Brown had a season PR of 61.6 in the women's 400, and junior Brittany Hodill recorded her first high jump of the season with a height of five feet.

Junior Veronica Vazquez had a particularly thrilling highlight of the day, and came back from sixth place to finish third overall in the women's 5k with a time of 17:53. Said head coach Tom Service about Vazquez's performance, "She had a very strong finish despite the heat and did a great job."

The team will have a few days off for the Easter weekend and will then go back to business next weekend. Half of the team will be competing at the Cal/Nevada Championships in Fresno and the remaining half will be competing in the SF State Distance Carnival in San Francisco.
