DAVIS, Calif. It was a great day for Santa Clara track today at the Woody Wilson Invitational in Davis, posting several high finishes and numerous broken personal records throughout the day.
Sophomore John Laughlin had a huge win for the Broncos, taking first place in the men's 1500 M with a speedy time of 4:02.27, a huge personal record for Laughlin in his second season at Santa Clara. Junior Ben Snyder placed 18th with a time of 4:11.24.
In the other events for the men, George Sanchez (151.86) and Greg Palmer (12.09) took 21st and 23rd place in the men's 100 M dash, and freshman Robert Reid placed tenth in the men's 800 M dash with a total time of 1.59:35.
Senior Mike Delaurenti continued to break his own record in the men's steeplechase, with a new record-breaking time of 9:16.75 and a second place finish overall. Sophomore Alex Harkins was not too far behind, placing fourth with a personal record time of 9:27.93.
Sophomore Stephanie Wilson also broke a personal record of her own competing in the women's 5k with a sixth place finish time of 17:42.97, about 12 seconds faster than her previously recorded time. Junior Veronica Vazquez took fourth place in the event with a time of 17:39.29, and Noelle Lopez (18:06.23) placed tenth.
Senior Danielle Miller continued to perform at the top in the women's steeplechase, finishing second with a time of 11:26.94, while Melissa Conlin placed third in the women's 1500 M (4:55.86). Anna Wheatley and Joanna Gistand placed eight and 14th in their respective events, the 800 M and the 400 M hurdles to end the day.
After such a hectic schedule these past few weeks, the team will be taking a well-deserved break this weekend in preparation for the USF Dual meet in San Francisco May 3rd.
