Outdoor Track Hosts First Successful Track Meet

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Saturday was a historic day for the outdoor track team as they hosted their first home meet in the history of the program at West Valley College, the USF Dual. While the meet also included quite a few independent athletes, the meet was mainly a showdown between the Broncos and the Dons.

Head coach Tom Service was very pleased with the Broncos' performance, stating, "We had a lot of good action in many races yesterday."

On the men's side, junior George Sanchez was a double winner in the 100 M and the 200 M (23.93), breaking a new SCU record in the 100 M with a time of 11.51. Sophomore John Laughlin earned a new lifetime best record in the 1500 M with a time of 4:00. Freshman Chris Mosier had his best track race of the year in the 3000 M with a final time of 8:59.99.

For the women, junior Anna Wheatley took first place in the 400 M hurdles (67.41) and second in the 400 M (61.03). Fellow junior Joanna Gistand placed third in both the 100 M (13.51) and the 400 M hurdles (73.93).

For the longer distance events, sophomore Stephanie Wilson won the 1500 M with a final time of 4:48.06. Junior Noelle Lopez was a warrior for the day, competing in a total of three events. Lopez placed fourth in the 3K (10:36.19) and fifth in the 800 M (2:25.71).

Next weekend will be the final meet of the season for the team at the Aggie Twilight at UC Davis. Half of the team will be heading to Davis and the rest of the team will be driving down to Occidental College to compete in the Oxy Invitational.
