Delaurenti's Postseason Cut Short

May 31, 2008

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Santa Clara senior Michael Delaurenti brought the 2008 outdoor track season to a close at the NCAA West Regionals this weekend. Delaurenti, who competed in the 3000m Steeplechase, finished 25th overall with a time of 9:15.42. The mark was the second best time of his career.

"We're so proud of Mike," said head coach Tom Service. "Not only was he our first runner to the NCAA West Regional but he ran one of his best races ever. He ran tough and we could not be more proud of him. Mike opened the door for every Bronco to come."

Throughout the season, Delaurenti steadily improved his steeplechase time in order to qualify for the big race at Northridge. At the Brutus Invitational in April, he finally reached his goal with a qualifying time of 9:06.84, just making the 9:07 cut-off time and a first place finish in the race as well.

The top five times advanced to the finals in Des Moines, Iowa on June 11-14.
