And then there were eight.  Santa Clara will travel for the first time in the CollegeInsider.com Post-Season Tournament on Tues., March 22, but it won't travel far and it has played its opponent more than any other in its history.  Santa Clara will play San Francisco in War Memorial Gym at 7 pm on Tues., March 21 for the opportunity to advance to the semi-finals of the CIT.

San Francisco battled from eight down with two minutes left at Hawaii to win 77-74 on Saturday night. Santa Clara advanced to the quarterfinals with an 88-75 victory over Air Force on Friday.  Kevin Foster tied his career-high with 36 points, adding a school record nine threes. The 36 points were a CIT record.

It's the 208th meeting between the two teams dating back to Jan. 22, 1909 when Santa Clara won 19-11.  SCU leads the all-time series 108-99 and the Dons lead the series 51-43 in San Francicso. Santa Clara has only played Saint Mary's more times than the Dons and sport a 131-79 record vs. the Gaels. Santa Clara has won eight of the last 12 games against USF, dating back to Feb., 2006.

Santa Clara is led by sophomore Kevin Foster who is averaging 19.7 ppg, including leading the country with 3.69 threes per game and a WCC single-season record 129 threes made.  The Broncos also feature Marc Trasolini (13.2 ppg) and Evan Roquemore (11.7) in double figures and the WCC Defender of the Year Troy Payne.  Ben Dowdell averaged 10.5 ppg in WCC play and is No. 2 on the career games played list for Santa Clara.
