Santa Clara Takes Lead 2010-11 WCC Commissioner’s Cup Race

2010-11 West Coast Conference Commissioner's Cup Standings As of May 11, 2011

  Following a strong performance at the West Coast Conference men's and women's tennis championships, Santa Clara University has taken over the top spot in the race for the 2010-11 West Coast Conference Commissioner's Cup. The Broncos have moved into first place in the overall standings past the University of Portland, which had led since the start of the fall season.   Santa Clara won the 2005 and 2007  West Coast Conference Commissioner's Cups.

After collecting 21 points at the golf and tennis championships, Santa Clara has surged into first place overall with 59.0 total Commissioner's Cup points.  Buoyed by the success of its women's programs and a men's tennis championship, San Diego has climbed into second overall, with 57.5 points.  Saint Mary's is third overall with 54.5 points, followed closely by the University of Portland (52.5) and the University of San Francisco (51.0).  Loyola Marymount University (45.5), Gonzaga University (44.0), and Pepperdine University (42.0) round out the overall standings.      

With the women's sports now complete, the University of San Diego has finished atop the women's standings for the third time in the last four years.  The Toreros won their second straight WCC rowing championship, and finished second at the women's tennis championship.  San Diego won the Women's All-Sports Trophy with 34 points, topping second place Saint Mary's College, which tallied 30 points.     

Due to penalties self-imposed by Pepperdine, the Waves have removed themselves from Commissioner's Cup eligibility in women's soccer, men's tennis, and baseball.  Pepperdine will finish with 42.0 overall points.       

 The race for the Commissioner's Cup will conclude as the 2011 West Coast Conference baseball season is completed at the end of May.  With three weekends remaining in the baseball season, Gonzaga is in first place by percentage points over San Francisco. San Diego sits in third, with Portland currently in fourth place.
