Utah Valley vs. USC Upstate Highlights

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Torrey Craig scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds and USC Upstate beat Utah Valley 75-50 Friday afternoon at the Leavey Center in the fifth game of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic.

USC Upstate (2-3) used two separate runs in the first half to take the 44-24 lead at the break. Adrian Rodgers had 13 points in the first half for USC Upstate.  Antoine Hosley had nine points for Eastern Washington.

The Spartans went on an 11-0 run early to pull ahead 21-12 behind a three-ball from Adrian Rodgers, a jumper for Ty Greene, and a layups from Rodgers, Torrey Craig and Ricardo Glenn.

Back-to-back dunks from Jodd Maxey kick started the Spartans second surge, taking a 40-17 lead off of 15 unanswered points with 3:25 left in the first.

Utah Valley (3-4) wasn't able to slow the Spartans following the break – USC Upstate held an even 20-point lead, 55-35, with 11:35 left in the game.

USC Upstate, coming off a Nov. 21 75-70 loss to Eastern Washington, finished with four players in double figures. Craig and Rodgers ended with a game-high tying with 19, Glenn had 14, and Greene added 12. 

USC Upstate took its largest lead of the game off a deep three-ball from Craig, putting the Spartans up 27, 72-45 with 3:52 left in the game.

Rodgers, making his second start of the season for the Spartans, drained 13 points in the first half.

The Spartans shot 64% from the field in the first, going 18 of 28. They nailed 66% from downtown, going 6 of 9. Overall, they shot 53% from the field, going 30 of 57 and 38% from behind the arc, good for 7 of 18. 

Utah Valley was paced by Antoine Hosley with 14 points, and Jason Johnson, Alfonzo Hubbard and Zach Jones all added 8 points.

Utah Valley, coming off a 75-67 loss to Santa Clara on Nov. 21, scored a season team-low 24 first half points. The Wolverines were 33% from the field, going 8 of 24, and 30% from downtown, shooting 4 of 13. They ended the contest shooting 39% from the field, going 19 of 48 and 28% from behind the arc, 6 of 22.
