Davey Speaks Following Gonzaga Contest

Jan. 25, 2001

Recap| Box Score

Dick Davey
(On question regarding Gonzaga shooting 51 free throws) "Officials are only trying to call the game. They only called what they saw. Gonzaga did more things right that we did. That is why we lost the game."

(On the defensive effort against Casey Calvary) I thought there were times in the low post that I thought we could have done a better job of getting around him. He got the ball and when he gets it in the low post he really is a load. He got it too many times in an area where he could be effective against us. I think we have room for improvement in that area."

(On play of Brian Jones defensively against Dan Dickau) "I thought Brian did a good job. He kept him in check reasonably well. He creates a lot for their team without scoring. He does other things that amount to big things for their team. His intellegence. His passing... He is a good player."

"We have to get past this game, look ahead towards Saturday at Portland. Portland is a team that really can play well at home. We've been in these situations before when we have lost a game and had to turn around quickly. I think our team has the mindset to come out on Saturday and know what is is going to take to win."
