Women's Basketball

Evan Unrau was named an assistant coach of the Santa Clara University women's basketball program in June 2009. Unrau coaches the post players as well as focusing her efforts on the team's recruiting efforts. Prior to the 2011-12 season, she helped SCU sign one of the NCAA's top recruiting classes, when ESPN ranked the Broncos incoming class No. 55 nationally.

Since her arrival at SCU, the Broncos have increased their win-total each of her three seasons and have set the standard for community service and academic achievement within the framework of intercollegiate athletics.

Unrau was instrumental in developing record-setting post player Lena Gipson '11 into a professional player. Gipson became just the second player in 47 years of women's basketball at Santa Clara to register over 1,000 points and 900 rebounds. Unrau has helped current Bronco forward Lindsay Leo post back-to-back 30-block seasons, which rank among SCU's best-ever single-season performances on the defensive end.

As a team and individually, Santa Clara's women's basketball student-athletes have achieved local, regional and national recognition for their achievements in the classroom. SCU owned a collective team GPA of 3.1 in 2011-12 and had a league-best three players named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team.  

Unrau came to the Mission Campus after serving one season as an assistant coach for UC Santa Barbara. In 2008-09, the Gauchos produced a 22-10 overall record, won the program's 11th Big West Tournament title and earned a berth to the 2009 NCAA Tournament. Prior to that, Unrau spent 2007-08 as the video coordinator for a Stanford program that made an incredible run to the NCAA National Championship game against Tennessee.

A four-year letterwinner at Missouri, Unrau earned Honorable Mention All-America honors after guiding the Tigers to their ninth NCAA Tournament appearance her senior season. She finished her career ranked third all-time in rebounds, seventh all-time in points and 10th all-time in blocks, while appearing in the top-10 of many more categories. A two-time first team all-league selection, Unrau also captained the Big 12 All-Star team that represented the United States at the 2003 World University Games in Daegu, South Korea.

In 2004, Unrau was drafted in the third round by the WNBA's Washington Mystics and played professionally in Luxembourg in 2006-07.

A native of Fort Collins, Colo., Unrau graduated from Missouri in 2004 with a degree in psychology and went on to earn her masters in health education and promotion from UM in 2006.
