Paula Martinez enters her fifth season as an assistant coach for the Santa Clara softball team in 2010-11. A former softball player at the University of California at Berkeley, Martinez will continue to work closely with head coach Lisa Mize on all aspects of the program, working specifically with the infielders.

Martinez brings an extensive coaching background, including work with the Lisa Mize Fastpitch Academy. She led nearby Wilcox High School to two league titles and a CCS runner-up finish during her tenure there from 1997-2003. She also spent time as the coach of the San Jose Sting helping them reach the 2004 U16 Nationals. In addition to her work at Santa Clara, she continues to give private hitting instruction and work as an ASA ACE Clinician, while also coaching the Mize Diamonds Gold. Her team reached the Gold Nationals in 2005.

As a player, she was a standout for St. Francis High School before receiving a scholarship to California, where she played second base. She helped lead the Golden Bears to a third place finish in the Pac-10 and to the NCAA Regionals in 1993.

A native of Santa Clara, she has two sons, Thomas and Jerry, and one daughter, Gabrielle.
