Volleyball

Returns for her senior season as a co-captain alongside her twin sister, Chrissy... will be competing for an important role as a defensive specialist but can also backup at the outside hitter position... will be looked to for leadership on the court and in the locker room.

AS A SENIOR IN 2002: Has started every match and appeared in every game for the Broncos during the 2002 season... posted a team-high 20 digs in the Broncos' 3-1 win over Sacramento State... set a new career-high in digs with 24 in the 3-1 win over LMU... registered 18 digs in the 3-1 win over Gonzaga on Oct. 11... poated 17 digs in the Broncos' 3-1 win over Saint Mary's... recorded 14 digs and one ace against San Jose State on September 28... registered 10 digs in the Broncos 3-0 win over previously unbeaten Maryland at the Denver Invitational... posted 11 digs against then No. 4 Nebraska... added 13 digs in the five-game win over Michigan at the U.S. Bank/Arby's Classic... recorded double-digit digs in all three matches of the Marriott Sunset Showcase... registered 1 more against Eastern Illinois during the Broncos 3-1 victory at the NAU Fiesta Bowl Tournament.

AS A JUNIOR IN 2001: Moved from defensive specialist to outside hitter this season... notched five double-doubles... notched 13 occasions with 10 or more digs... hit .357 with only two errors and a career-high 12 kills against 15th-ranked Pacific... recorded a career-high 17 digs at Pepperdine.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2000: Saw action in 28 matches and 50 games... posted five kills, six digs and one block vs. Delaware in the North Carolina/Nike Classic... added 11 service aces, three against Saint Mary's on Nov. 12... in a prior match against the Gaels, entered the contest in the third game and immediately pounded a back-row kill for the match victory... also registered 59 digs.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 1999: Appeared in 22 of 32 matches, playing in 46 games... totaled 13 kills... scooped up 51 digs... also recorded four service aces and seven block assists... charted three kills at both Texas A&M and at Gonzaga... served two aces against San Francisco... twice posted seven digs, against Sacramento State and at Saint Mary's... assisted on four blocks against Pepperdine.

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, Calif. with her twin sister, Chrissy... played for head coach Dave Gambelin...earned first team All Santa Clara Valley Athletic League honors as a senior... also garnered first team All-Central Coast Section accolades... averaged 4.0 kills and 2.5 digs as a senior... chalked up a .320 hitting percentage... helped the Lancers to back-to-back SCVAL, CCS, NorCal and State championships... team posted a 40-1 record in 1999... played for City Beach Club... earned first team all-league honors in softball, basketball along with track and field... four-year scholar athlete.

PERSONAL: Full name is Cynthia Elizabeth Hirsch...born May 5, 1981 in Stanford, Calif... parents are Robert and Paula... twin sister Chrissy also plays volleyball for Santa Clara... majoring in communications... took the same classes as Cindy through first two years.
