EYEBRONCO: An introduction to Natasha Calkins

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2015: WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention … played in 14 matches and 42 of the team’s 114 sets … had 56 kills and 26 total blocks … recorded eight kills vs. Rutgers (Aug. 29) … had six kills and hit .385 vs. SMU (Sept. 5) … posted nine kills and hit .615 alongside one service ace and four block assists vs. Cal State Fullerton (Sept. 5) … added seven kills and hit .375 with two block assists at UTSA (Sept. 10) … tallied three kills, three digs and three block assists at No. 4 Texas (Sept. 11) … had five kills and four block assists vs. San Diego (Sept. 24) … hit .444 with five kills, one dig, one block solo and four bock assists vs. No. 10 BYU (Sept. 26).

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2014: One of three Bronco freshmen named to the WCC All-Freshman Team … played in 26 matches … collected 98 kills, averaging 1.34 kpg … finished third on the team with 56 total blocks, averaging 0.77 bpg … vs. St. Francis Brooklyn (Aug. 29), had 3 kills, hitting .600, with 3 blocking assists … started vs. Lafayette (Aug. 30) and had 2 kills … vs. Central Conn. St. (Sept. 5), had 3 kills hitting .500 … at UCSB (Sept. 19), picked up 4 kills in 4 attempts … started vs. NIU (Sept. 20), and picked up 9 kills while hitting .750 … at Cal Poly (Sept. 20) started and hit  .412 with 10 kills, adding 1 solo block and 2 block assists … at San Francisco (Sept. 26) had 5 block assists … vs. Pacific (Sept. 30), picked up a start with 2 kills and 5 blocking assists … at No. 24 San Diego (Oct. 2), started and earned 9 kills while hitting .562 with 4 block assists … started vs. Gonzaga (Oct. 10), had 9 kills, 1 solo block and 6 block assists … at No. 24 LMU (Oct. 18) started and had 2 kills and 6 block assists ... hit .500 at Saint Mary’s (Oct. 23) with 5 kills and 4 blocks …  earned 3 kills and 2 blocks at Pacific (Oct. 25) ... against No. 11 BYU (Oct. 30) hit .444 with 5 kills and 2 blocks ... picked up 4 kills and 2 blocks vs. No. 24 USD (Nov. 1) … against Pepperdine, recorded 4 kills (Nov. 15) … hit .750 with 6 kills against USF (Nov. 20) … recorded 7 kills while hitting .636 in shutout against Saint Mary’s (Nov. 24) … had 2 kills and 1 block against Oregon in the first round of the NCAA Tournament (Dec. 5).

PERSONAL: Career goals are to play professional volleyball ... Mother, Esmie Lawrence, was an Olympian (1988) and ran professionally in France ... Father, Brian Calkins, played basketball at Grande Prairie Regional College ... in high school she played basketball, track, volleyball and was on the swimming team ... hobbies and interests include reading and running ... studying in the College of Arts and Sciences.

WHY NATASHA CHOSE SANTA CLARA: I chose to go to Santa Clara because they have a great program that is up and coming. I believe the team is going to be very successful, and I am excited to work hard and hope contribute to that success during my time there.
