2012 UCSD Triton Invitational
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's water polo team finished up play today at the 2012 UC San Diego Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif. In the morning game, the Broncos battled but fell 9-7 to the host No. 18 UCSD Tritons. Marina Allen tallied a season-high four goals while Laura Espinosa added two. In addition, Claire Eadington added a goal for the Broncos.
The afternoon game featured a tough back and forth game between WWPA foe Sonoma St. The Broncos took a 2-1 lead after the first thanks to goals from Allen and Laura Burtness. The Seawolves countered with a strong second quarter, outscoring the Broncos 2-0.
Eadington kept the Broncos within striking distance throughout the third, equallying the Seawolves three goals all on her own. Espinosa struck first in the fourth, tying the game up at six but Sonoma St. found the back of the net twice in the fourth to take the game 8-6.
Next up for the Broncos will be two home games against Cal St. East Bay and Stanford on Saturday, February 18th at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.
