BBF Information

2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the Bronco Bench and its rich tradition of giving back to the University. Originally founded with a focus on building and improving athletic facilities, the ‘Bench’ turned its attention to providing scholarship opportunities for athletes after the completion of Buck Shaw Stadium. Since 1962, the BBF has been dedicated to supporting the scholarship needs at Santa Clara, providing more than $35 million for student-athletes.

The Bronco Bench contributes more than $1.5 million each year, accounting for 30% of all athletic scholarships awarded. About half of these funds come from an endowment pool of nearly $23 million. The remaining funds are raised through alumni, family, friends, corporations and special events.

Santa Clara student -athletes have built a tradition of competitive excellence both academically and athletically. Current and former student-athletes are All-Americans, National Champions, Olympic Champions and a Rhodes Scholar. In the last five years, Bronco teams found success while posting an overall average GPA above 3.0. In this short period, the women’s soccer team reached the NCAA tournament for the 23rd time in program history, men’s tennis competed in their first NCAA Tournament and men’s basketball brought home a CIT title.

The Bronco Bench Foundation is proud to support the success of these student-athletes, but is in need of your continued support. In the last three years, the cost of a scholarship has increased from $49K to $52K. Scholarships are a key component to helping Santa Clara recruit the highest caliber student-athlete and ensure future Bronco success. We encourage and invite you to continue the legacy of giving by supporting the Bronco Bench Foundation.
