Feb. 11, 2003

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's basketball team will be looking to get back in the win column Thursday when it faces upstart Loyola Marymount in a 7 p.m. West Coast Conference contest in the Leavey Center.

Tickets to the game are available by calling 408/554-4660 or they may be purchased on the Internet by clicking here. Fans may also place a silent bid for two courtside floor chairs for each of the remaining games by clicking here. Santa Clara games are broadcast live on the Bronco Radio Network, which consists of 1640 AM KDIA, 103.3 FM KSCU and on the Internet by clicking here.

Thursday's game will mark the annual Take a Kid to the Game Night at Santa Clara. Each youth accompanying a paid adult will receive admission to the game for $2. In addition, SCU students can participate in "Blind Date Night" and a postgame gathering will be held in The Bronco. For information on Bronco promotions, call 408/554-4690.

Santa Clara enters Thursday's game with an 11-10 overall record and 2-6 mark in the WCC after dropping a 78-66 home decision to the University of San Diego last weekend. The Broncos led by as many as 14 second-half points before going over 9:00 without a field goal and allowing the Toreros to mount a 24-4 run during that time.

Last month, Santa Clara's nine-game win streak over the Lions was snapped when Loyola Marymount took a 75-69 win at Gersten Pavilion. Keith Kincade scored 19 points and Sherman Gay had 18 and five blocks to lead Loyola Marymount, who snapped a five-game losing streak and a 15-game conference losing streak. Brandon Rohe scored 23 points to lead Santa Clara.

Rohe continues to lead the Broncos in scoring, averaging 11.8 points per game. The San Juan Capistrano, Calif. native is just seven three-point field goals from tying Steve Nash's freshman record of 49 at Santa Clara and he is just two short of second-place Kyle Bailey on the list. He is still 29 three-point attempts from Nash's freshman record 135 set in 1992-93.

Loyola Marymount is 9-15 on the season and 3-6 in the WCC after knocking-off first-place Gonzaga by a score of 80-74 last weekend in Los Angeles. Andy Osborn scored 17 points and was named the league's player of the week for his performances last weekend.

The Lions, who are 0-8 on the road this season, are led in scoring by freshman Brandon Worthy's 11.3 points per game. Charles Brown and Osborn are the only other Loyola Marymount players in double figures, averaging 11.2 and 10.5 points respectively.

Following the Loyola Marymount contest, Santa Clara remains at home to play a rare Sunday afternoon contest against Pepperdine on Feb. 16. The 1 p.m. start against the Waves was set in order to accomodate a Fox Sports Net regional telecast.
