Provo, Utah – In front of 16,116 fans at the Marriott Center, Kevin Foster scored 22 points to pass John Bryant at No. 6 all-time, but it wasn't enough as BYU won its first-ever WCC match-up with Santa Clara 95-78.  BYU is now 16-5 all-time vs. the Broncos, including 10-2 in Provo.

Santa Clara shot 46.6 percent from the field (27 of 58), including 36.0 percent from beyond the arc (9 of 25).  They collected 26 rebounds, 15 assists, two blocks and four steals.  Turning the ball over 11 times, they shot 60.0 percent from the free throw line (15 of 25). 

Foster led the team with 22 points and a team–high five assists.  Foster moved to No. 6 on the career list, passing 2009 WCC Player of the Year John Bryant, who scored 1,667 career points from 2005-09.  Foster needs seven to pass Dennis Awtrey, who is No. 5 with 1,675 points from 1967-70.

Niyi Harrison scored 18, one of his career high, Raymond Cowels III scored 14 and Evan Roquemore added 11.  Yannick Atanga led the Broncos with five rebounds and Robert Garrett added four.

BYU shot 56.0 percent from the field (33 of 58), including 41.2 percent from beyond the arc (7 of 17).  They collected 40 rebounds, 21 assists, two blocks and seven steals.  Turning the ball over 11 times, they shot 75.9 percent from the free throw line (22 of 29).

Individually for the Cougars, Brandon Davies led the Cougars with 23.  Noah Hartsock had 21.  Matt Carlino added 21 and Charles Abouo 13.  Nate Austin led the Cougars with seven rebounds and Carlino collected a game-high seven assists. 

To start the game, Hartsock scored a three at 19:20 and the Broncos took a 4-3 lead at 18:36 on two back-to-back baskets by Harrison.  The game was tied 6-6 on Roquemore's jumper at 17:20.  

Cowels III missed, but grabbed the rebound out the Cougars' paws and put it in at 17:20.  A three by Matt Carlino and a bucket by Hartsock and BYU led 11-8 at 15:31.

After Charles Abouo hit four straight free throws over a minute, Foster hit his first three of the game from the top of the key at 13:02, 19-15 BYU.

After a Cougar turnover inbounding the ball, Foster crushed a three on a dandy pass from Yannick Atanga and the Broncos trailed by one at 12:01, 19-18.  Timeout Cougars.

BYU hit three of four free throws to take a 22-18 lead.  Davies dunked it at 9:46 to give the Cougars a 24-18 lead before Cowels III buried a three at 9:25.

After a Davies basket, Roquemore sank a three from the top of the key but again Davies answered with a jumper at 8:21, 28-24 BYU.

Fouled shooting three feet out, Foster sank both at 7:38, but Davies dunked it again at 7:24, 30-26 BYU.

Austin knocked Foster to the floor shooting a three and he hit two of three at 8:02, 30-28 BYU.  A jumper by Carlino was followed by a three by Cowels III at 5:53, 32-31 BYU.

Hartsock went to the rim hard to score and Carlino followed it with his second three, 37-31 BYU at 3:47. 

Foster's third three of the game hit paydirt at 2:48.  A dandy pass by Foster to Garrett for a dunk at 1:36, but Davies followed inside with a bucket and then McArthur went inside as well, 41-38 BYU at 1:37.

McArthur hit an eight foot jumper, but Cusick hit a three in response with 19 seconds left.  Roquemore scored a pair of free throws with 6.4 seconds left and then Jordan Akwenuke blocked Carlito's last second attempt to make it 45-42 at the half.

In the first half Santa Clara shot 50.0 percent from the field (15 of 30), including 54.5 percent from beyond the arc (6 of 11).  They collected 13 rebounds, eight assists and a block and a steal.  Turning the ball over six times, they shot 60.0 percent from the free throw line (6 of 10).  Foster led the Broncos with 15 points in the first half.  Cowels III had eight.  Four Broncos had three rebounds each.

In the first half BYU shot 55.6 percent from the field (15 of 27), including 50.0 percent from beyond the arc (4 of 8).  They collected 17 rebounds, 11 assists, two blocks and four steals.  Turning the ball over five times, they shot 78.6 percent from the free throw line (11 of 14).  Individually for the Cougars Davies led with 17 points and Carlino added 10. Zylstra and Hartsock both collected four rebounds and Steve Rogers led the team with three assists.

Hartsock and Davies added baskets inside, but Foster crushed an NBA-quality three, his fourth of the game.

The Cougars went on an 11-2 run following Harrison's basket at 18:14.  Four free throws by the Cougars and a bucket by Zylstra made it 57-48 BYU at 16:43. A dunk by Harrison followed one by Davies.  Abouo crushed a three at 15:31 and Davies dunked it again at 15:46. 

Roquemore's three-point play stopped the run at 14:20.  Garrett went inside at 13:01 to score.  Carlito scored inside and so did Hartsock between a floater by B. Clark at 13:33.

The Broncos were cold on the offensive end, not scoring a basket for more than five minutes, when Foster scored his 20^th point of the game at 7:49 on a floater.  BYU answered inside again and went up 77-60.

Harrison hit a pair of free throws at 7:14 and after BYU threw the ball out of bounds, Foster passed it nicely to Cowels III who hit scored a three at 6:49.  Cowels III was three of four from beyond the arc.

Davies picked up his fourth foul by clipping Harrison and the Milpitas native hit one at 6:18.  Back-to-back threes by the Cougars broke the Broncos back at 4:33 as the Cougars went up 86-69.

But, Abouo fouled Foster shooting a three and he sank both, 86-70 BYU at 4:16.  With the first free throw he moved to No. 6 all-time on the Bronco career points scored list, passing Bryant.

Davies scored in the paint at 2:22.  Cowels III hit his fourth three of the game at 2:12, 92-78 BYU.
