Scholl worked with Keating and his staff to recruit another fantastic class with all five newcomers expected to play vital rolls in 2009-10. Scholl, 31, spent the past seven seasons as an assistant coach at the University of San Diego, his alma mater, on the staff of former Torero head coach Brad Holland.
"Sam is continuing to prove his recruiting mettle, having assisted in recruited a championship team already in this conference. He has done a fantastic job of starting our recruiting efforts here at Santa Clara," said Santa Clara head coach Kerry Keating. "Sam is a great people person who has a bright future ahead of him." At University of San Diego, Scholl worked closely with the guards, in addition to his roles with recruiting, scouting, academic support and San Diego's Elite Camp. He also played an integral role in the recruitment of 16 Torero players, including four first-team All-WCC performers, one WCC Newcomer of the Year, and a pair of WCC All-Freshman Team players. The Torero's advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2003. The Toreros' lone senior on the team's 20-9 squad from 1999-2000, Scholl played guard for San Diego for two seasons. Prior to USD, he played two seasons at Tacoma Community College in Tacoma, Washington.
A native of Gig Harbor, Washington, Scholl completed his undergraduate degree in Sociology at the University of San Diego in 2001. A 1996 Gig Harbor High School graduate, Scholl was the point guard on the 1996 2A Washington State championship team.
Scholl is married to the former Heather Brown and they have one child, Riley Marie Scholl, born January 9, 2008.
