SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's basketball team opens preparations for the 2003-04 season this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Leavey Center. The practice is open to the public.
The Broncos return four letter-winners from a team that won 20 games last season and advanced to the WNIT. The returners are a pair of seniors in guard Whitney Sutak and forward Jennie Rondel, and a pair of junior All-West Coast Conference guards in Kayla Huss and Quinn Thomas.
"The preseason went by fast," second-year head coach Michelle Bento-Jackson said. "I couldn't be more pleased with the effort in conditioning in the past weeks. On the other hand, I wish we had just a little bit more time for preseason. We have quite a bit of newcomers and there's so much teaching to do. They're picking up on things quickly in their individual workouts and it should carry over into practices smoothly."
The Broncos will host two exhibition contests at Leavey prior to the season opener. On Wednesday, Nov. 5, Santa Clara will host the Bay Area Pro-Am at 7 p.m. The following week, the Broncos will take on Team Concept. That game is scheduled for Wednesday, November 12 at 7 p.m.
