No. 4 Loyola Marymount vs. No. 8 Santa Clara

March 7, 2009

Recap |  Box Score

Loyola Marymount Head Coach Julie Wilhoit
Opening Statement:

The win was much needed for us; the last couple of weeks have obviously been a struggle. I think the biggest thing I want to say in terms about how excited I am about the win and about moving on is what a fantastic job the WCC has done in bringing us here to Vegas and bringing this tournament to a neutral site.

On the win against Santa Clara and rematch against Gonzaga:
Well I love the win and I love that the win that takes us to Gonzaga. For me as a coach I would like to see them in the second game rather than in our third game.

Sophomore Guard Renahy Young
About performance today:

Do I think it is one of my best games? Definitely. I think I was in the zone I guess you would call it. I wasn't thinking too much. I was thinking just enough I feel. I really want to get to the championship game and I know our team really wants to get to the championship game and win the whole thing. That is what is driving me right now, just wanting to win.

Senior Guard Cassady Moore
On this game potentially being her last:

I have had a great season and hopefully that continues; I just want to win. I really didn't think about it being my last game seriously. My last game hopefully is the championship game if it's going to be my last game.

Santa Clara Head Coach Jennifer Mountain
Opening statement:

We have got to tip our hats to LMU for their effort. I thought our kids battled the entire game. Looking at the stats sheet and watching the game, it really came down to rebounding. We can't give up 17 offensive boards and expect to be in the game at the end.

Looking forward to next season, after yesterday's win:
I think for the kids coming back, you want to look at the positive. And there is a lot of positive. There is more than a win and loss record that you need to gauge yourself on. Yesterday was a complete effort and full 40-minute game where we put everything together.

Senior Guard Sara Majors
On her career-high performance and last game as a Bronco:
I think we just came into this tournament saying this game could be our last game every game.

Sophomore Forward Lena Gipson
On how much this game was sadness and relief:
Personally I wish we could have gone on longer. Just to further prove to people that how well we actually can play.
