SANTA CLARA, Calif. –
Lena Gipson had a game-high 14 rebounds and scored 10 points but Santa Clara's offense was out-scored by an efficient Pepperdine team Thursday night 69-49.

Lauren Bell came off the bench to score 18 making 8 of 12 shots and Pepperdine (13-7; 4-2 WCC) turned the ball over just once in the first half. The Waves were able to break open a close game after the first 10 minutes and cruise to the win, their eighth in 10 tries.

Santa Clara (6-14; 2-4 WCC) saw Alyssa Shoji make her first three 3-point attempts to spark the Bronco offense early on, but SCU shot just 29 percent from the floor in the second half and 32 percent (16 for 50) on the night.

Shoji's third trey in the first 10 minutes gave the homestanding Broncos a 16-15 lead. She finished with a team-high 11 points.

Pepperdine countered by scoring the game's next seven points and going on a 13-2 run bookended by a Bell jumper with 5:28 left before the half, making it 28-18 Waves. Pepperdine was extremely efficient with its possessions in the first half, and would finish the game with just eight turnovers as a group. They led at the break 36-20.

The Broncos made a push at the 9-minute mark, cutting a 22-point Wave advantage down to 14 on a transition basket by Iman Scott with 8:48 left.

Wave freshman Robbie Mayberry's old fashioned 3-point play and her conventional triple on Pepperdine's next possession put the game out of reach inside of five minutes, 61-40 Waves.

The Broncos will return to action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against the Lions of Loyola Marymount. The Lions improved to 10-10 and 4-2 in the WCC with an 83-57 win at USF Thursday night.
