BEAUMONT, Calif. - Powered by Candice Palmer's sixth-place finish in the individual competition, the Santa Clara women's golf team started the spring season off strong by taking third at the Lady Braveheart Challenge at Oak Valley Golf Club Tuesday afternoon.

San Diego State again controlled the action in the final round, shooting a 309 on their way to the team title, followed by UC Davis' 632 which gave the Aggies second. On the individual side of things, Cal Poly's Jessica Huss turned in the day's low round of 71 which propelled her to medalist honors.

The Broncos shot a team total of 321 for the day, three strokes better than the previous day's score. Palmer's second-straight round of 78 gave her a total of 156, good for sixth place, while Megan Stoddart's 80 lifted her to 17th place for the tournament.

Samantha Trask shot an 81 while Ella Sanman's 82 and Corey Utsurogi's 86 completed the Bronco scoring. Hilaire Fouts also carded an 80 while competing as an individual.

"This will give us some momentum heading into the Northern Arizona Invitational in 11 days," head coach Polly Schulze commented. "There will be the same kind of field in Arizona that we faced here and hopefully we can get a win out of there. I'm very proud of the girls for this performance, they fought to the very last hole."

Santa Clara returns to the links the weekend of Feb. 25-26 as they head to Sedona, Ariz. for the Northern Arizona Invitational.
