Kakadelas Leads Broncos to Victory

LOS ANGELES - The fifth-ranked Santa Clara University women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Loyola Marymount this afternoon in West Coast Conference action at Sullivan Field in Los Angeles. Senior forward Megan Kakadelas scored the game-winner in the 79th minute as the Broncos win their sixth straight. Santa Clara is now 13-4-2 overall, and remain in the hunt for the league title with a 5-1-0 WCC record. The Lions drop their fourth straight in the programs' series and are now 10-6-3, 2-3-1.

Kakadelas' goal was her sixth of the season. She took a shot from the left side for the game-winner. As a team, the Broncos out-shot LMU 8-5. Tina Estrada, Marian Dalmy, Leslie Osborne and Bree Horvath also recorded shots for the visitors.

Sophomore goalkeeper Julie Ryder netted three saves in her eighth shut out of the season. She now has 17 in her career, good for fifth place in program record books.

Santa Clara will honor its six seniors in the team's last home match of the regular season, scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. vs. Pepperdine. A pre-match ceremony will take place on the field to recognize Lana Bowen, Bree Horvath, Megan Kakadelas, Leslie Osborne, Alyssa Sobolik and Monika Sola.
