Brittany Lowe Tabbed West Coast Conference Player of the Week

Oct. 3, 2005

Santa Clara, Calif. - Coming into college, Brittany Lowe was considered one of the top recruits in high school and she's continuing to prove that she is one of the best players in her class. On Monday afternoon, the 6-0 outside hitter was named the West Coast Player of the Week after leading No. 14 Santa Clara (13-1, 2-0 WCC) to three important victories last week.

Santa Clara played San Jose State at home on Tuesday night and then went on the road to open up WCC play against Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine. The Spartans were unable to contain Lowe, as she had a match-leading 17 kills and 9 digs in the three-game sweep. Against the Lions, Lowe faced a loud and hostile crowd at Gersten Pavilion, but still managed to put down 13 kills and dig 9 balls. Finally, in a nationally televised match, the Yorba Linda, Calif. native saved her best performance for last, punishing the Waves for a career high 24 kills and 13 digs, her fifth double-double of the season. In addition, her sizzling .553 hitting percentage against the huge Pepperdine block produced another career high, topping her previous mark of .531 set just two weeks ago. This is the first weekly award for Lowe and she becomes the third Bronco to be honored as the West Coast Player of the Week in 2005, joining senior Cassie Perret (9/12) and junior Kim McGiven (9/5) as previous winners.

"I am really excited for Brittany that she got Player of the Week from the WCC. She had three great matches last week, two against conference rivals on the road against traditional powerhouses in our conference," said head coach Jon Wallace about his precocious freshman. "Part of the reason why she came to Santa Clara was because she wanted to win the conference and she knows that Pepperdine and LMU are always good. She performed really well and put up great numbers."
