Volleyball Announces Strong 2023 Schedule

FULL 2023 SANTA CLARA VOLLEYBALL SCHEDULE

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The Santa Clara University volleyball team will go for its third postseason appearance in five years with a 2023 schedule that features eight matches against postseason teams from a year ago, four against teams that spent time in the top-25 during 2022, three matches against Power-5 programs, and two home tournaments.

The Broncos (13-19, 8-10 West Coast Conference in 2022) reached the National Invitational Volleyball Championship for the second time in head coach Erin Lindsey's four-year tenure during the 2022 season. They won a first-round true road match at host Portland State before falling to WCC foe Pacific in the second round. And that came after Santa Clara had run off a five-match winning streak to end the year, building momentum towards 2023 and beyond.

Season tickets and single-game options for all 13 of the Broncos' 2023 home matches are on sale now. Click here to purchase your tickets online, call the Broncos ticket office (408-554-4660) or email them at broncostickets@scu.edu.

Santa Clara will open the season by co-hosting the Santa Clara/San Jose State Invitational to start the year on Aug. 25-27. The tournament features three home matches on Aug. 25 and 26, then concludes with a crosstown clash against the Spartans on SJSU's campus. The Broncos also host their annual home tournament, the Santa Clara Mission Classic, on Sept. 8-9, with matches against Air Force and CSU Bakersfield.

Santa Clara heads east twice in September to take on big-time opponents. The month kicks off in Pennsylvania for the Catholic Challenge at Villanova University, where the Broncos will take on Notre Dame (Sept. 2) and the host Wildcats (Sept. 3). They'll also face 2022 Ivy League co-champion Princeton (Sept. 5) on that trip.

Then the Broncos travel to Lindsey's old stomping grounds in North Carolina in mid-September. They'll face Lindsey's alma mater, North Carolina (Sept. 15) and Duke (Sept. 16). They'll also pick up a match at North Carolina Central (Sept. 14).

Even with the departure of perennial power BYU, the WCC slate will once again provide an elite-level challenge for the Broncos. Santa Clara finished tied for fifth in the conference last season, with all four teams above them reaching the NCAA Tournament. Defending conference champion and 2022 Final Four participant San Diego visits Leavey Center on Nov. 2. Pepperdine and LMU – both 2022 NCAA at-large bid recipients – visit on Nov. 9 and 18, respectively, while rival San Francisco comes to the South Bay on Oct. 19.
