Nov. 7, 2003

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's cross country team is ranked ninth in the West Region, according to the Women's Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association, continuing the team's rise in the polls and marking the highest ranking in school history.

The Broncos, coming off a second-place finish at the West Coast Conference championships last weekend at Crystal Springs Cross Country Course in Belmont, Calif., have finished among the top six in each of its five meets this season. The squad has the weekend off in preparation for the annual NCAA West Regional Championships, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 15 in Portland, Ore.

The West Regional poll lists last year's national runners-up Stanford as the top team, followed by Arizona State, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, Washington, Idaho, Portland, Oregon, Santa Clara and UC Irvine.
