LAKE NATOMA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men and women's crews each entered one boat into the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships on Saturday at Lake Natoma near Sacramento, Calif. Both the women's novice four and the men's varsity eight each found the waters heavy as they each finished fifth in their preliminary heats and did not advance.
SCU's women's novice four crossed the finish line in a time of 9:13.0 to finish fifth out of five boats in heat number one. USC won the heat in a time of 8:00.3, followed by UC San Diego (8:05.6), Cal (8:14.0) and Everett (8:28.5).
The men's varsity eight crossed the finish line in a time of 6:54.3 to also finish fifth out of five boats in heat two. San Diego State won the heat in a time of 6:23.2, followed by Long Beach State "B" (6:30.3), UC Davis (6:31.5) and Sacramento State (6:35.5).
Both the men and women will participate in their final regatta on Sunday, taking part in the Pac-10 Championships at Lake Natoma. The women have three boats enters, participating in the varsity four, second varsity eight and varsity eight classes.
The men have two boats entered, going with both their second varsity eight and varsity eight in the competition between Pac-10 schools and other Calfornia schools that sponsor rowing. The Pac-10 Championships is the final competition for both the SCU men and women in the 2002-2003 season.
