LAKE NATOMA, Calif. - For the second straight day, the Santa Clara crew programs battled through wind and rain on Lake Natoma to compete in the WCC Challenge. A strong headwind of 5-to-10 mph kept times down, while scattered showers affected racing near Sacramento, Calif.

On the men's side, the varsity eight boat posted a win in its first race of the day. The Broncos pulled a time of 6:25.1 to better Saint Mary's, which crossed the line in a time of 6:41.4.

In their second race of the day, the men's varsity eight suffered a loss to Gonzaga. The Broncos crossed the line at 6:30.8, while the Bulldogs posted a time of 6:25.5.

On the women's side, the varsity eight boat also faced Saint Mary's in its opening race. Santa Clara finished second in a time of 7:14.2, while the Gael's pulled a time of 7:06.2.

SCU faced Gonzaga in the second race of the competition. The Broncos also fell to the Bulldogs after pulling a time of 7:28.0. Gonzaga crossed the line at 7:06.7.

The Santa Clara women will return to action on Wednesday, when they compete at the Stanford Lights in Redwood City, Calif.

The SCU men will race on their home course on Friday when they host UC San Diego in a dual meet. The racing will take place on Lexington Reservoir in Los Gatos, Calif.
