MISSION BAY, Calif. - The Santa Clara rowing teams traveled south last weekend to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic at Mission Bay. The men's Varsity 8 took fourth in the American Specialty Health Cup, while the women's Varsity 8 advanced to a final in the Women's Collegiate Cup.
The Bronco Novice 8 did an excellent job in the heat of the Collegiate Novice Event, racing against crews from some of the top rowing programs in the nation. However, in the end, SCU came up short on qualifying for one of the finals. Meanwhile, the Varsity 8 advanced to the Third Final of the Women's Collegiate Cup and finished third with a time of 7:20.42.
The men's Varsity 8 also had a great performance in the American Specialty Health Cup. The Broncos finished second overall in the heat on Saturday with a time of 6:19.62, just one second away from first place. In the finals, SCU took fourth place in a field of six. It was a close race as the Broncos finished just 71 milliseconds behind third place OCC. Santa Clara's JV Petite also had a solid finish, taking third in their race on Sunday.
The Broncos return to action on April 18-19 at the Stanford Invitational.
