REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – The Santa Clara University men's crew team has improved its time by over 20 seconds in the last two weeks, rowing strong at the Stanford Invite in Redwood Shores April 16-17.
The Broncos entered two dual races, going neck-and-neck with UC Davis on Sunday after losing to California's 3V by just three seconds Saturday. The times show important progress for a Santa Clara team that is closing in on the WIRA Championships at the end of the month.
"Things are really clicking," said Santa Clara head men's crew coach Wieslaw Kujda. "Every year is different, and right now this group is coming together at the right time. The race Sunday against Davis was one of the closest races we've had in years. In each of the last four years rowing against Cal, we have closed the gap. Both coxswains did a fantastic job this weekend steering the boat and making the right calls."
As the men's crew continues to prep for the WIRA's at nearby Lake Natoma, April 30-May 1, the Broncos will scrimmage against California this Saturday at Lexington Reservoir.
