SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With the season fast approaching, Santa Clara men's rowing hit the water for the first time under new head coach Jay Farwell in his second tenure on the Mission campus. The Broncos took part in the Golden State Indoor Rowing Championships in Sacramento, Calif. on Feb. 2. Santa Clara raced against Sacramento State, UC Davis and Sonoma State.

"We had a great day taking advantage of some water time at the Port of Sacramento in the early morning hours and then headed up Highway 50 to Lake Natoma for the indoor competition," said Farwell. "Considering our guys took in about 16,000 meters at the Port of Sacramento, they performed really well."

Junior Frankie Morales took second place with a time of 6:23.9 in the Men's Collegiate Open event. The Broncos also had eight rowers finish in the top-15. In the Men's Collegiate Lightweight, Howard Limburg finished in 11th place. For full results, click here.

"I was really proud of our guys' efforts at the event," continued Farwell. "It was a long day but the guys pushed themselves and had strong results. Our erg times will get faster but we have a good foundation on which to move forward and our first race, Davis Invitational, is a month away."

The Broncos now turn their focus to the Davis Invitational that will take place on March 3 in Davis, Calif.
