Men's Rowing Travels South to Compete in San Diego Crew Classic

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After completing a grueling spring break practice schedule, the men's rowing squad is set to travel south to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic. The Broncos will compete in three events at the SDCC over a two-day period on Apr. 6 and Apr. 7.

Last weekend the Broncos raced Sacramento State at Lexington Reservoir to complete the week of intense spring practice, which included double days.

"Considering the amount of work we put in last week, we had a solid race against Sacramento State," said Santa Clara head coach Jay Farwell.

Against Sacramento State, the Varsity 8 won its race with a time of 6:02, finishing 14 seconds ahead of Sacramento State (6:16). The Junior Varsity 8 battled Sacramento State's second boat to a rare tie. Finally, the Novice 8 won their race with a time of 6:28, beating the Hornets' Novice 8 by 17 seconds (6:45).

"I was really pleased with the overall effort of the crew during spring break and to cap off our training period with a win over a team like Sacramento State says a lot about our tenacity," said Farwell.

The Broncos now turn their attention to the weekend with three events over two days in San Diego, Calif. The Broncos will compete against multiple schools from all over the country in the following events:

Varsity 8 – American Specialty Health Cal Cup
Junior Varsity 8 - Sharp Cabrillo Cup
Novice 8 – Derek Guelker Memorial Cup

"We are looking forward to seeing other crews in our conference at the San Diego Classic," said Farwell.
