Two former Broncos were honored by the Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids recently as key members of its organization, the club announced.

Joe Cannon, a former two-time MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, was selected as the recipient of the Honda Rapids Most Valuable Player Awards. Eric Denton, who joined the Rapids after four seasons with the Columbus Crew, was honored with the team's Black & Blue Player of the Year Award.

All of the 2005 Rapids Player Award Winners received a commemorative trophy for their efforts, and each player also recorded a special thank-you video to the Colorado fans that was shown on the RapidsVision during the halftime ceremony.

Cannon was named both the Rapids' MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in 2004 and he earned the San Jose Earthquakes Humanitarian of the Year award as a member of their team in 2000. He works with autistic children at the Morgan Center in Los Altos, C alif. Cannon majored in political science at Santa Clara.

Denton played four years at Santa Clara, appearing in all 83 matches, where he led the Broncos to the championship game of the 1999 NCAA College Cup. At Santa Clara, he was named third-team NSCAA All-American in his junior year, and a first-team NSCAA All-American after his senior season.

HONDA RAPIDS MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AWARD: #1 Joe Cannon
The Honda Rapids Most Valuable Player Award goes to the player who most exemplifies reliability, dependability, and exceptional performance and who has been most indispensable to the Rapids over the course of the season. Joe Cannon wins this award for the second straight year for both his performance between the pipes and his indispensability to the squad. It was not only Cannon's acrobatic saves but also his leadership on the field that kept the Rapids in games on occasions too numerous to count this season.

BLACK & BLUE PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD: #16, Eric Denton
This award goes to the Rapids player each year who most exemplifies the true spirit of the Colorado Rapids franchise, game in and game out. Eric Denton had a breakout year for the Rapids after joining the squad in 2005 and was heavily depended on by Fernando Clavijo to alternate playing position between the defense and midfield. He was the Rapids' tireless workhorse this year, giving his all on the field every game, and still finishing the season tied for the team lead in number of games played.
