Santa Clara, Calif. - With a pair of goals in both halves, the No. 12 ranked Santa Clara Broncos rolled past No. 18 Saint Louis University 4-1 on Friday night at Buck Shaw Stadium. Four different players registered goals for Cameron Rast's squad as the team improved to 4-0-1 on the season, while St. Louis dropped to 1-2-1.

While the Billikens started out with good possession in the early going, it was the home team that got on the board first as Aaron Clubb netted his first goal of the season and second of his career in the 30th minute. Matt Marquess picked up the ball at midfield and lofted a long cross into the box. As St. Louis goalkeeper Nick Billman rushed out of his net, Clubb out-leaped his defender and flicked the ball over the goalkeeper and into the empty net for a 1-0 lead.

Jide Ogunbiyi and Keith DeVey combined for a spectacular goal just seven minutes later to give SCU some breathing room. After just stepping onto the field as a sub, Ogunbiyi took a throw-in from freshman Chris Sauter and whipped a perfect cross into the box. DeVey got free and drove a volley past Billman and into the net for his first of the year. DeVey now has 15 career goals as a Bronco, moving him one step closer to the all-time top-10 in school history.

Things got worse for the Billikens early in the second half as Rob Viviano picked up his second yellow card of the match and was sent off leaving St. Louis with only 10 players and 40 minutes to go.

Despite being down a man, St. Louis nearly came back to within a goal on two occasions. On the first, Joseph Buttita came up big with a save on Dado Hamzagic in the 56th minute to keep his shutout intact. 10 minutes later, Calum Angus shot just high to preserve the Broncos two-goal margin.

Amaechi Igwe put the game out of reach with a spectacular goal with under 20 minutes remaining. Picking up the ball on the left side of the field, the Belmont, Calif. native unleashed a rocket that beat back-up goalkeeper Ross Kaufman high to the near post. The freshman sensation now has two goals in 2006.

Captain Peter Lowry provided the icing on the cake as his free kick from 30 yards sailed over Kaufman's head and into the net for an insurmountable 4-0 lead. A late goal by Scott Wisniewski provided the Billikens with some consolation, but the Broncos cruised home with the win.

SCU hits the road next weekend as it battles No. 10 UCLA (Sept. 15) and Cal State Northridge (Sept. 17) down in Southern California. Last season, the Broncos beat UCLA on a late goal in their season-opener.

The Broncos next home game is on Friday, Sept. 22 against San Jose State at 6:00 p.m. PT at Buck Shaw Stadium. The game will be followed by the Bronco women taking on UCLA at 8:00 p.m. PT.
