Men’s Soccer Signs Explosive Winger from Hawaii via IMG Academy
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer signed Cole Motooka, an explosive wing player from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, to a national letter of intent to join the program for the 2020 season.  Broncos head coach Cam Rast made the announcement.

Motooka, a Honolulu, Hawaii native plays club soccer for the Honolulu Bulls, transferred to IMG Academy after his sophomore year to join the academy's development team.  He was named the Most Improved Player for the Under-19 Development Academy during the 2018-19 season.

"I chose Santa Clara because the moment I first stepped on campus, the atmosphere around me felt like a place I could spend my next four years at. The coaches and players were welcoming during my visit along with other students on campus. I feel like Santa Clara has everything to offer to be able to have a memorable and impactful college experience," said Motooka.

The 5-foot-8 Motooka was named second-team all-state his sophomore season at Iolani School after leading the Interscholastic League of Honolulu in scoring.

Motooka also helped lead his club team to the 2018 Surf Cup championship.

"Cole is from Hawaii but left the Islands to pursue a higher level consistent training in his game at the IMG Academy.  He came to our camp this past summer and just lit it up," said Rast.  His pace was amazing and then he went down to the Surf Cup and I thought he did a really good job there.  Cole is a very explosive player but even at a high pace, he has the ability to hold onto the technique.  He is hard working, dynamic and can strike the ball, so all of the things you want in a wide guy, he's going to bring it.  We are looking forward to having Cole join our program."
