SANTA CLARA, Calif. – For the 21st time in its storied history, Santa Clara men's soccer made the NCAA Tournament as they will travel to face Akron on Thursday in the first round. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. PT.
No. 16 Santa Clara (11-1-4, 5-0-2 WCC) received an automatic bid to the tournament when they won the 13th West Coast Conference title with the win over Portland in the penultimate league game. The last time the Broncos made the tournament was in 2015.
The Broncos head into the match against Akron (9-5-3, 2-3-1 MAC) riding a 12-game unbeaten streak going 8-0-4 in that span, that includes finishing the West Coast Conference slate undefeated (5-0-2) for the fourth time in program history.
Santa Clara has appeared in five College Cups (1989, 1991, 1998, 1999, 2003) and won one National Championship (1989).
