Men's Tennis Falls to Arizona 5-2

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Santa Clara men's tennis team fell to 60th-ranked Arizona 5-2 in dual action this afternoon at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

With the loss, the 75th-ranked Broncos fall to 0-2 on the year, after also losing to No. 52 Arizona State on Friday.

The Broncos swept the Cats in doubles play, as sophomores Mike Bruggemann and Ryan Livesay defeated Steven Capriati and Whi Kim 9-8 (5) at the No. 1 spot. Freshman Michael Duong and redshirt freshman Rick Ruso also won a tie breaker, 9-8 (4) at the third position, topping Arizona's Roeland Brateanu and Brian Jackson.

In singles play the Cats won five out of six matches. Kim shut out sophomore Federico Mattioli at the No. 4 spot, 6-0, 6-0, picking up the Wildcats' first point of the match. Transfer Victor Camargo was the only Bronco winner, earning a 6-2, 7-5 decision on the sixth court over Brateanu.

Clinching the match for the Wildcats at the No. 4 position was freshman Carl Hagman, earning a victory over Duong, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.

The Broncos return home and host UC Davis on Saturday, Jan. 27. The match will begin at 1 p.m. at the Santa Clara Tennis Center.
