SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's rowing had two rowers named to the All-WCC Preseason Rowing Team. Seniors Megan Alferness and Blair Mitchell were the two Broncos to receive recognition.

"Megan and Blair have both been leaders on our team for a while," said Santa Clara head coach John Wojtkiewicz. "Blair is our only four-year senior and will be coxing the Varsity eight, while Megan started as a novice her sophomore year, suffered from a serious back injury her junior year, only to return better than ever and stroke our Varsity this spring. Neither of them have missed a training day or a workout and the two of them work well as a team in the stern."

Alferness is in her third year rowing at Santa Clara. She did not row in high school but played volleyball and softball at San Marin High School in Novato, Calif.

Mitchell came to Santa Clara with an extensive background in rowing, competing all four years of high school at Xavier College Prep in Phoeniz, Ariz. She was a three-year varsity letter-winner and boated in the Varsity 4+, Lightweight 4+ and Varsity 1x as a senior with the Tempe Town Lake Rowing club. As a sophomore and junior, Mitchell lettered with Xavier Prep Crew, boating in the Lightweight 8+ and was a novice and JV team member with Xavier Prep Crew as a freshman, competing in the Freshman 8+, Novice 8+ and Novice 4+.
