Comcast SportsNet To Televise Bronco Soccer

Aug. 22, 2005

Sacramento, Calif. - Comcast SportsNet West announced it will provide live television coverage of Santa Clara's home women's soccer game vs. Notre Dame live from Buck Shaw Stadium on Friday, September 9th at 7:00 p.m.

Following the match, the network will air a tape-delayed contest between the 13th-ranked Bronco men's team at second-ranked Maryland. For information on where to view the game, click here.

The women's game is a rematch of last year's College Cup national semifinal game, which Notre Dame won 1-0. The Irish went on to beat UCLA to claim the national championship, while the Broncos finished the season with the No. 3 national ranking.

The match-up continues a heated rivalry in women's soccer, as both teams have consistently been national contenders. Santa Clara won the national championship in 2001 and has been to the College Cup 10 times, including three of the last four years. Notre Dame also claimed the national title in 1995.

Notre Dame is ranked No. 1 in this year's National Soccer Coaches Association of America preseason ranking, while Santa Clara is ranked No. 5. Notre Dame, Santa Clara and North Carolina are the only teams ever to be ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA preseason poll.

The Broncos return seven starters and 17 letterwinners from last year's team that finished with an 18-5-2 record. The Irish return nine starters and 13 of the top 15 players from the 2004 national championship team that went 25-1-1.

The Santa Clara - Notre Dame game will be a part of a televised double-header on Comcast SportsNet. The Santa Clara men's soccer team, ranked No. 13 in the Soccer America preseason poll, takes on No. 2 ranked Maryland in College Park, Md. earlier in the evening. The game will be tape delayed at 9:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
