Head Coach Jerry Smith
On the match against No. 1 Stanford:
"We did what we needed to do tonight. We only had one usable sub against a healthy, fast and deep Stanford team. I'm very proud of how my team played tonight. They played a much disciplined game and tonight the post was our friend. Our defense worked hard to limit the space in the penalty box and did a great job stopping what is probably the fastest front line in the nation."
On Santa Clara's defense:
"We played disciplined defense and our goal was to limit the space around the penalty box. We had a young group in the back line tonight with Kendall Doherty and Maxine Goynes, and they had to figure out how to stop the fastest team in the nation."
On Maxine Goynes:
"We started Maxine tonight at center back against the speedy Stanford front line due to Lindsey Johnson's injury. With the decisions we made tonight we made life a little simpler for Maxine tonight, but she played very well given the circumstances."
More on the match:
"We did not concern ourselves with shots because only about half of Stanford's 26 shots were on goal. And tonight the post was our friend. That doesn't always happen. A lot of their shots hit the crossbar."
Junior goalkeeper Meagan McCray
On the most difficult part of the match:
"The whole match was tough. From the beginning we had to focus on defense and with a limited group of players, it was tough. But our defense came up big tonight. You have to credit Stanford. They made some great shots. The toughest of those shots was when they came at us on transition. But our entire backline was crucial to our success tonight."
