No. 8 Broncos Fall At No. 3 Notre Dame, 1-0

An early Irish goal is all that separated No. 8 Santa Clara and No. 3 Notre Dame as the Broncos went on to suffer their first loss of the season this evening on the opening night of the Inn at Saint Mary's Classic in South Bend, Ind.

Melissa Henderson found Rose Augstin in the box for the goal in the third minute and Santa Clara, despite firing off 13 shots (seven on net), was unable to answer in the game's remaining 87 minutes.

Freshmen Sarah Jackson and Julie Johnston continued to lead the team on offense, firing off two shots on goal each, but Irish goalkeeper Nikki Weiss was there each time, finishing the game with seven saves.

Bronco junior goalie Bianca Henninger made six total stops on Notre Dame's 16 shots.

Santa Clara, now 2-1-1 overall, will face Ole Miss on Sunday at 11 a.m. ET in the final day of the tournament.  The Rebels fell 2-0 to Texas Tech earlier on Friday.  It will be the first meeting of the Broncos and Ole Miss in women's soccer history.
