Santa Clara, Calif. - For any sport, preparation is a key ingredient for winning and for the Santa Clara women's tennis team, they will be fully prepared for this weekend's West Coast Conference Championships, especially after facing No. 11 California this Wednesday as a tune-up. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at the Hellman Tennis Center in Berkeley, Calif.
California enters Wednesday's match-up sporting an overall mark of 15-6, including a weekend sweep of No. 31 Arizona and No. 18 Arizona State. The Golden Bears have a stacked line-up brimming with talent, as they boast four players ranked in the ITA Singles Top-125 Poll. Junior Suzi Fodor tops the list at No. 10, followed by a trio of sophomores: Suzi Babos (No. 27), Cristina Visico (No. 98), and Marion Ravelojoana (No. 106). Sophomore Stephanie Kusano also found herself ranked at various points of the season, giving Cal another strong weapon at their disposal. In addition, Babos and Fodor check in as the 19th-best doubles team in the country. Jan Brogan is in her 28th season at the helm of the California women's tennis program and has compiled an overall record of 516-213.
Following Wednesday's match, Santa Clara (6-10) will return home to host the West Coast Conference Championships, slated to run from Friday to Sunday. Schedule and game times have not been determined yet, but please check back often for up-to-date information regarding the league tournament.
