SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Responding to the national tragedy, Santa Clara University today canceled its scheduled volleyball match against Sacramento State, all law school classes and moved its annual Convocation to the Mission Church for a community prayer service. Information on the possibility of rescheduling the match has not been released.
The convocation service at 10:30 a.m. in the Mission Santa Clara de Asis will bring faculty and staff together to hear a message from University President Paul Locatelli, S.J.
In an email message to faculty and staff at 9 a.m., Locatelli said: "In light of this morning's tragic events in New York and Washington, the Convocation will center on a prayer service for the victims of the terrorist attacks and their families, those who are suffering, and for our country."
SCU also announced the cancellation of its annual Faculty Recognition Dinner tonight, as well as the College of Arts and Sciences convocation originally set for this afternoon.
Decisions about athletic events, law school classes and other University events this week will be made on a day-to-day basis, officials said. The SCU law school has approximately 900 students.
Information updates will be posted on the University Website and the Campus Events Calendar.
