LOS ANGELES – The newly formed women's water polo league, the Golden Coast Conference, has named Mike Daniels as commissioner. The league will begin competition in the 2014 NCAA season and includes Azusa Pacific University, California Baptist University, Fresno Pacific University, Loyola Marymount University, San Diego State University, Santa Clara University and University of the Pacific.
"I believe we are quite fortunate to have someone with the experience that Mike brings to our new conference," said LMU Athletics Director Dr. William Husak. "We had many amazing candidates interested in this position and we are very excited for the future with Mike leading the way."
Daniels currently serves as Commissioner of the NAIA Division I league the Golden State Athletic Conference, which has produced 44 NAIA National Champions. He will continue to work in that fulltime role.
"I am honored to be selected as the commissioner of the Golden Coast
Conference," said Daniels. "It is an exciting opportunity to work with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and fans in growing the sport of women's water polo and this new conference. I plan to enhance the opportunities for each conference member and make a positive difference in the development of the GCC."
Prior to his current positions, Daniels was the Associate Commissioner of the Big West Conference, serving as the conference liaison to women's water polo, helping the league to add the sport in 2009. He joined the Big West in 1998 as the information director, moving to Assistant Commissioner in 2002 and then Associate Commissioner in 2011.
He earned his Bachelors of Arts from UCSD in 1993 and his M.B.A. from San Diego State in 1997.
